Te Tomokanga – A Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Evaluation Tool for completion by Māori Caregivers:

Te Tomokanga is the first validated and reliable instrument for use in CAMHS by Māori caregivers that examines satisfaction with these services.  This tool provides the opportunity to support Māori caregivers, children and adolescents, with a cultural measurement that is not currently offered in Aotearoa.  It is expected that positive experiences by Māori parents is more likely to influence on-going dealings with CAMHS that contribute to better mental health outcomes for their children and improved service delivery.

This tool contributes to the broader aim of providing cultural support for the CAMHS workforce.  Te Rau Matatini will provide:

  • Informed access to resources for Kaumātua/ Cultural workers to assist their cultural roles in CAMHS
  • Education for Kaumātua/ Cultural workers in the development, relevance and implementation of Te Tomokanga to CAMHS cultural processes and exit protocol
